As the new year draws closer, gyms across India are preparing for their busiest season. Young people, students and working professionals alike are gearing up to chase fitness goals, determined to get healthier and stronger. While this growing focus on health is encouraging, doctors are now flagging a troubling trend that is quietly following behind — a sharp rise in gym-related injuries among young adults.

Orthopaedic specialists across the country report seeing more patients in their twenties and early thirties walking in with muscle, ligament and joint injuries linked to workouts gone wrong. In 2025 alone, hospitals have noticed a clear increase in such cases, with people under 35 forming a large chunk of those seeking treatment. Many of these injuries, doctors say, were once more common among older patients.

Experts believe the reasons are fairly consistent. High-intensity workouts, poor exercise form, lack of trained supervision and little time given to rest and recovery are placing excessive strain on young bodies. In the rush to see fast results, many gym-goers end up pushing themselves beyond safe limits.

Orthopaedic specialists point out that these patients are not careless or uninterested in health. In fact, most are highly motivated individuals who genuinely want to stay fit. However, ambition without guidance often leads to problems like ligament strains, shoulder and knee pain, persistent back issues and even early damage to cartilage.

The reassuring part, doctors say, is that most of these injuries can be avoided. Slowing down, learning proper technique, giving the body time to recover and seeking professional guidance can make a big difference. Fitness, they remind us, should be about building a strong future — not risking long-term damage in the pursuit of quick results.
