Aamir Khan Also Auditioned For A Role In Laapataa Ladies But Got Rejected

Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry for the 2025 Oscars, aiming for a nomination in the Best Foreign Film category. The film, produced by Aamir Khan, stars Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan. Interestingly, Aamir Khan had auditioned for a role in the film but was ultimately turned down.

At an event earlier this year, Aamir revealed his desire to play a part in the film, particularly the role portrayed by Ravi Kishan. Despite his enthusiasm, Kiran Rao felt that his star power would overshadow the film’s narrative. Aamir recounted, “The story was really good, and there was a very good character in it… but Kiran said, ‘You are a very big star, my film is small, you will disbalance it.’” Even though Aamir gave a screen test, both he and Kiran agreed that his presence might raise audience expectations, potentially shifting focus away from the story.

Aamir also shared that he had suggested altering his appearance, akin to Robert Downey Jr.’s transformation in Tropic Thunder, but Kiran dismissed the idea, believing it wouldn’t make a significant difference.

Laapataa Ladies is based on Biplab Goswami’s award-winning story and revolves around the humorous misadventures of two young brides who get lost on the same train. The screenplay and dialogues have been crafted by Sneha Desai, with additional dialogues penned by Divyanidhi Sharma.
