A surprising casting choice has recently captured the attention of movie enthusiasts: Aamir Khan is set to portray the husband of Genelia D’Souza in his upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par. This pairing might seem unconventional to many, especially since it was Aamir who introduced Genelia to Bollywood in 2008, where she starred opposite his nephew, Imran Khan, in the popular romantic comedy Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na.

Over 15 years later, the two are now sharing the screen as a married couple. Aamir acknowledges the initial surprise with a smile, stating, “Ya, I know. That thought did come to me.” He quickly adds, “But that was a long time ago. And ab Imran bhi kaafi meri age ka ho gaya hai (laughs).”

In Sitaare Zameen Par, which is a Hindi adaptation of the 2018 Spanish film Campeones, both Aamir Khan and Genelia will play characters in their early 40s. Despite Aamir being 60 years old, he brushes aside any concerns about the age difference. He attributes this newfound flexibility in casting to advancements in modern technology and a more accepting audience, which he believes are breaking down traditional cinematic barriers regarding age gaps.

He elaborates on this point, explaining, “We have the advantage of VFX now.” He contrasts this with past methods, saying, “Earlier, if I had to play an 18-year-old, I had to rely on prosthetics — like Anil Kapoor did in Eeshwar (1989), when he played an 80-year-old. Today, you can look 80 or 40 or 20 on screen with seamless visual effects. So age is no longer a barrier for actors.”
