Aamir Khan’s highly anticipated return to the silver screen with Sitaare Zameen Par saw a modest opening day at the box office. By 8 PM on Friday, the film had garnered Rs 8.87 crore, according to an early report. This initial figure is somewhat lower than the high expectations typically associated with an Aamir Khan release, particularly after his last film, Laal Singh Chaddha (2022).
The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of 17.73% on its opening day. Morning shows saw a 16.74% turnout, with afternoon figures remaining consistent at 16.25%. There was a slight uptick in the evening shows, reaching 20.21% occupancy. For comparison, Laal Singh Chaddha had opened with Rs 11.7 crore on its first day. Whether Sitaare Zameen Par will surpass that figure by the day’s end remains to be seen.
Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is positioned as a spiritual successor to the 2007 blockbuster Taare Zameen Par, which also featured Aamir Khan in a significant role. In this new film, Khan portrays a basketball coach who mentors a team of children with learning disabilities, helping them discover their self-worth and achieve success. The movie is an official remake of the Spanish film Campeones.
