Aaqib Javed Won’t Replace Jason Gillespie As Pakistan’s Head Coach, Says PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dismissed reports suggesting that former Pakistan pacer Aaqib Javed is set to replace Jason Gillespie as the all-format head coach. Rumors of the change gained traction after claims that Gillespie had declined the all-format coaching role.

Contrary to the speculation, PCB confirmed that Jason Gillespie will remain the head coach for Pakistan’s Test side during the upcoming two-match series against South Africa in December. The clarification came through a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), where PCB stated:

“PCB strongly refutes the story. As announced previously, Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the Pakistan side for the two red-ball matches against South Africa.”

This confirmation, however, was limited to the red-ball format, leaving questions about Pakistan’s coaching setup for the T20I series against South Africa. The announcement has not addressed the white-ball formats, leading to speculation about a new coach being appointed for the three-match T20I series against South Africa.

Earlier this year, Gary Kirsten stepped down as Pakistan’s white-ball coach just before their series against Australia. In response, PCB named Jason Gillespie as an interim coach for the ODI and T20I matches. The recent developments suggest that PCB may soon reveal plans for the limited-overs coaching role.
