AB de Villiers Talks About How Delhi Daredevils Lied To Him & Broke Their Promise

The former South African cricketer AB de Villiers is one of the most popular cricketers of India because of his association with the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.

AB de Villiers was associated with RCB for 11 years but before that, he had three dull seasons with the Delhi franchise which was earlier known as Delhi Daredevils. However, what was shocking was that AB de Villiers was snubbed by DD; before the 2011 auctions, AB de Villiers was told that he would be retained by the franchise but he was released and he got to know through Twitter that he was bought by RCB in the auctions.

AB de Villiers revealed this information in a video which was posted on his YouTube channel. He stated, “When I played in the 2010 season, I got called into the office and was told ‘you are going to get retained, young AB de Villiers’. I sat alongside David Warner in that meeting. It came as a huge surprise to me a week or two later when I realised I had been released.”

He added further, “So the communication wasn’t great back in the day, that must be different these days but it’s not a nice feeling.”

AB de Villiers further said, “You’re unsure of your career, at that time in 2010 I think I only played five games in that IPL season so a lot of doubts crept up in my mind. But I did have a very good international season. I kept playing good cricket and luckily for me the auction happened and I got picked up by RCB, and it changed my life forever, so great memories with regards to that. I was so nervous. Then I got the news from Twitter that I was picked by RCB and the next moment Virat Kohli called.”

AB de Villiers was an integral part of RCB for many years and he still shares a great bond with Virat Kohli.
