In a bizarre incident, veteran actor Anupam Kher’s image was featured on counterfeit ₹500 notes in Gujarat, adding an unexpected twist to his already notable contribution to Indian cinema. The fake currency, worth ₹1.6 crore, was used to dupe an Ahmedabad bullion trader. Instead of the usual portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, the counterfeiters printed Anupam Kher’s picture on the notes.
The case became public when the trader discovered the scam, revealing that the fake currency bore the label ‘Resole Bank of India’ instead of ‘Reserve Bank of India’. Images of the fraudulent notes quickly spread across social media, where they attracted a mix of shock and amusement.
Among those who found humor in the incident was Kher himself. The actor shared a news clip on his Instagram, expressing his amusement with a caption that read, “My photo instead of Gandhi’s photo on the note of five hundred???? Anything can happen.”
Anupam Kher, who debuted in Mahesh Bhatt’s film Saaransh, has long been recognized as one of India’s finest actors, with numerous critically acclaimed roles in his career.
