Actress Padmapriya Narrates A Disturbing Experience On A Tamil Movie Set

South Indian actress Padmapriya recently shared a troubling experience from a Tamil film set, revealing that she was slapped by a director in front of the crew. Speaking at an event, the actress, now 44, clarified that the media had falsely reported that she slapped the director, emphasizing that this misrepresentation led to further victimization. She questioned why she would have filed a complaint if she had been the aggressor, highlighting the frequent distortion of women’s experiences in such situations.

Following the incident, the director was banned from filmmaking for six months. However, the traumatic experience left Padmapriya disillusioned, and she stopped accepting Tamil film roles afterward. Until that moment, she had never encountered such a negative experience on a film set. Without naming the director, she recounted how he slapped her after a scene, accusing her of not emoting properly. “For a long time, I thought I was the issue,” Padmapriya shared during the event, according to a leading publication.

Padmapriya expressed frustration over how the incident was reported, saying that it was twisted to make her the issue. “When a woman talks about issues, she becomes the issue,” she remarked, shedding light on how women’s grievances are often dismissed or distorted.

Padmapriya, primarily known for her work in Malayalam cinema, made her acting debut in the 2004 Telugu film Seenu Vasanthi Lakshmi. She has since appeared in acclaimed films such as Thavamai Thavamirundhu, Karutha Pakshikal, Mirugam, and Pazhassi Raja.
