Actress Tamannaah Bhatia Named in Illegal IPL Streaming Investigation

The name Tamannaah Bhatia was announced in connection to the illegal streaming of IPL matches. According to sources, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell has called the actress as a witness so they may interview her about the issue. On April 29, the actress is scheduled to attend for interrogation. Sanjay Dutt’s name reportedly surfaced in relation to the case as well. Earlier this week, he was summoned to appear for examination.  He requested a new date because he was unable to attend owing to his schedule.

“Actor Tamannaah Bhatia has been called by Maharashtra Cyber to appear in court over the unlawful streaming of the 2023 Indian Premier League on the Fairplay App, which resulted in Viacom losing millions of rupees. On April 29, she has been requested to appear before Maharashtra Cyber, according to a post on X.

On April 23, actor Sanjay Dutt was also called in relation to this, but he did not show up. Instead, they stated, “He had requested a time and date for recording his statement and had stated that he was not in India on the specified date.”

It is said that Tamannaah and Sanjay supported and advertised FairPlay’s Mahadev betting app subsidiary.

More than 20 influencers who have reportedly supported the FairPlay app on other platforms are also expected to be called upon shortly to provide comments.

About the Case of Illegal IPL Streaming:

The Times of India claims that in September 2023, Viacom18 filed a formal complaint alleging that they were the rightful owners of the intellectual property rights (IPR) to stream Indian Premier League games. In spite of this, the matches were being illegally streamed on the Fair Play network by the betting app. Viacom18 suffered a loss of nearly Rs 100 crore as a result. Many celebrities, including Tamannaah, Sanjay Dutt, Badshah, and Jacqueline Fernandez, were summoned for interrogation after the filing of the first information report. An employee of the betting app was taken into custody in December of 2023.
