After Bumrah’s 9-Wicket Haul, Brendon McCullum Talks About Finding Ways To Counter Him

The 5-match test series between India and England is leveled at 1-1 after India emerged victorious in the second test match which was played at Vizag.

The Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his superb bowling as he took 9 wickets (6 in the first innings and 3 in the second innings). Though Bumrah created problems for the England batters in the second test match yet England’s head coach Brendon McCullum is quite sure that his batters will find a way to deal with Bumrah for the remaining three matches.

He said in an interview, “We don’t really do theories. It is about making sure the guys are totally clear and present, confident and have conviction in their method. They are a lot better than I ever was and they will work out how best to go about it.”

He further said, “There are contrasting ways of going about it. We will see where we get to. For now, we have to tip our cap to Jasprit and say that spell was as good as anything we have seen so far on this trip.   It’s all condition-dependent. When the ball is swinging like that he becomes even more of a threat. He is a fantastic bowler in all forms of the game. He is unique with his release points and with how much swing he can generate in the air.”

McCullum stated that his side has played many good bowlers in the last 18 months and have dealt with them in a correct manner and they will do the same with Bumrah as well. In his words, “No doubt he is very good, but we have come up against very good bowlers all through the last 18 months or so and found ways to counter them and that is what we have got to do in this one.”

The third test will be played from 15 Feb at Rajkot.
