The Delhi Police have detained a Nepalese national for reportedly insulting Air India flight attendants and damaging the restroom door on a journey from Toronto to Delhi.
The Delhi police have detained a Nepalese national in connection with yet another instance of disorderly conduct on board a flight from Toronto to Delhi on Tuesday. The man is accused of verbally insulting the Air India crew members and damaging the restroom door. The passenger, identified as Mahesh Pandit in the FIR, allegedly changed seats and yelled insults at the service members.
The passenger stopped after they alerted the pilot in command and issued him a warning, according to the FIR, which was submitted by the victim’s cabin supervisor Aditya Kumar. However, once the smoke signal went out, the passenger was discovered with a cigarette lighter inside the restroom.
He shoved me back and sprinted to seat 26F when I opened the door in front of the passenger. He assaulted me and shoved me as I attempted to stop him. He later shattered LAV door 3F-RC. Then I quickly alerted the captain, and on his direction, Punit Sharma, another passenger, and I attempted to restrain him in accordance with SOP,” Kumar said.
“With the assistance of 10 other passengers, we were able to restrain the accused passenger,” he continued. Later, we discovered that the accused was attempting to assault the passengers.
The passenger is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Delhi Police, who have filed a case against him at the IGI Police Station under sections 323/506/336 of the Indian Penal Code and 22, 23, and 25 of the Aircraft Rules.
Several incidences of passengers allegedly peeing or acting inappropriately onboard have been reported during the last few months. The first example that came to light involved Shankar Mishra, who is accused of peeing on an elderly woman while intoxicated on an Air India trip between New York and Delhi on November 26 of last year. Mishra was detained in connection with the matter, but after posting bail.
