Despite previous reports of a strained relationship, Ajinkya Rahane has publicly expressed his keen anticipation for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance in the upcoming Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Rahane, who will be watching the five-Test series closely, believes Jaiswal possesses the adaptability and skill set essential for opening the batting in challenging English conditions.

Concerns about the dynamic between the two Mumbai teammates arose in April, with reports suggesting their relationship had deteriorated significantly since 2022. India Today even went so far as to claim a “completely broken down” relationship, citing an incident during the 2025 Ranji Trophy where Jaiswal allegedly “kicked Rahane’s kitbag” after feeling “wrongly targeted” by Rahane and coach Omkar Salvi following a loss to Jammu and Kashmir. This reported discord was even linked to Jaiswal’s initial decision to transfer to Goa from Mumbai, though he has since sought to rejoin the Mumbai Cricket Association.

Nevertheless, Ajinkya Rahane’s recent comments suggest a focus on Jaiswal’s cricketing prowess. Speaking on his YouTube channel on Thursday, ahead of the first Test in Headingley, Rahane stated, “Personally, I’m really looking forward to seeing Yashasvi Jaiswal do well because opening the batting in England is really important.” He further elaborated on Jaiswal’s capabilities, adding, “He has the game for it — he can control one end and also go on the attack when needed. So I’m really looking forward to seeing Jaiswal perform in England.”

Hopefully, Yashasvi Jaiswal will prove Ajinkya Rahane correct.
