Alaknanda River Tragedy: 10 Killed, Numerous Injured in Devastating Transformer Explosion

A transformer explosion on the Alaknanda River’s banks resulted in at least 10 fatalities and a number of other injuries. According to authorities, in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

“This is a tragic event. The location has been reached by the police, SDRF, and district administration. The injured are being transported by helicopter to AIIMS Rishikesh and are being sent to higher centers, according to Dhami.

On Wednesday, a transformer burst on the banks of the Alaknanda River in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, killing at least 15 people, including a policeman and five home guards, according to PTI. The incident took place at the Namami Gange project’s location.

“Around 15 persons, including five home guards and a police sub-inspector, have perished. An investigation is in progress. Prima facie evidence suggests that there was current on the railing, and further information will come to light as the investigation proceeds, according to V Murugesan, Additional Director General of Police for Uttarakhand.

Continuous Rainfall Alerts Are Issued in Uttarakhand

The tragedy occurs as rivers’ water levels rise in Uttarakhand as a result of the region’s recent heavy rains. Red and orange advisories have already been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Uttarakhand. For the areas of Chamoli, Haridwar, and Rudraprayag, a flood alert has been issued.

Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been instructed to maintain a state of high alert. Around 70 villages in the Laksar, Khanpur, Roorkee, Bhagwanpur, and Haridwar tehsils are experiencing flood-like conditions as a result of the recent nonstop rain.

Due to a heavy water discharge from the Alaknanda river dam on Monday, the Ganga breached the danger threshold in Devprayag and the warning level in Haridwar, according to PTI.
