Pratibha Ranta, one of the breakout stars from Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies, has gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Jaya. The film, which has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025, also features Nitanshi Goel, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan.
The new actors, including Pratibha, received immense praise for their performances, catapulting them to fame.
Pratibha Ranta made her acting debut in the TV show Qurbaan Hua (2020-2021), but it was her roles in Laapataa Ladies and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi that brought her into the spotlight. Her appearance in Heeramandi further solidified her growing fan base. Interestingly, her sister, Abha Ranta, also acted in Heeramandi, playing the younger version of Manisha Koirala’s character.
Growing up in Shimla, Pratibha was often compared to Bollywood star Preity Zinta, who also hails from the same town and attended the same school. In an interview, Pratibha recalled, “Everyone would call me Preity Zinta or tease me with lines like, ‘Dekho, heroine aa rahi hai.’ I was like, ‘Ab to main Preity Zinta ban ke rahungi.’”
