After being disqualified from the Olympics, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement on Thursday and shared a touching message on X. “Maa kushti jeet gayi, main haar gayi” (Wrestling defeated me, I have lost) was her way of expressing her sadness. On Wednesday, Phogat was disqualified from the 50 kg freestyle final of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.The 29-year-old wrestler weighed a bit over the permissible limit during the weigh-in on the day of the final and was handed a disqualified result.
In an apology to her fans, Vinesh said her courage has crumbled, and she can no longer continue. An amazing career that spanned from 2001 until 2024 came to an end with her farewell. Vinesh also thanked her supporters, stating that she would always be grateful to them. She said, “Alvida, kushti,” bringing an end to a period in Indian wrestling.

Phogat’s appeal to CAS over disqualification from Paris Olympic finals
Following Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the 50 kg category final at the Olympics in Paris, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) will review her appeal on Thursday. Phogat has asked the CAS to grant her a silver medal; the appeal’s decision is probably going to be announced today.
“Vinesh Phogat has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after her disqualification, requesting the silver medal. “CAS will give its verdict tomorrow morning.”
Sarah Ann Hildebrandt of the United States was scheduled to face Phogat for the gold medal. Cuban wrestler Guzman Lopez, who was eliminated from the competition after losing to Phogat in the quarterfinal, faced Hildebrandt in the championship match. Hidebrandt won the bout to claim gold.
