A lot is being discussed and talked about Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila nowadays because of the movie Amar Singh Chamkila that released on 12 April on a digital platform.
The movie has been directed by Imtiaz Ali and the lead role of Amar Singh Chamkila has been played by Diljit Dosanjh while Parineeti Chopra played the role of Chamkila’s second wife, Amarjot. Recently, Amar Singh Chamkila’s first wife Gurmail Kaur gave an interview in which she said that she even hosted Amarjot and made food for her as well.
As per the movie, Amarjot was not aware of Chamkila’s first marriage and Gurmail came to know about them only after Chamkila married Amarjot.
In an interview, Gurmail said, “Chamkila would visit alone and not bring Amarjot along. But she did visit me sometimes. I would make rotis, she would make the vegetables. She didn’t know how to make rotis, they had a cook. I would respect her because of Amar Singh Chamkila.”
She further talked about the difficult times that they faced after the death of Amar Singh Chamkila who was shot dead at the age of 27 yrs. She said, “The light of our house died. We had no one to financially support us. The children were small, where could I have gone? The money that he earned, we didn’t get any money because of the court cases that opened after his death. Cases went on for 15 years. I was handling court cases and the kids, and took on the responsibility of Chamkila’s uncle. He was not mentally stable and often believed that Chamkila and Amarjot were alive.”
