Amarinder Singh will likely replace Bhagat Singh Koshyari as Governor of Maharashtra

Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is likely to be named the new Governor of Maharashtra. This happened a few days after the current Governor, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, said he wanted to quit.

During his time in office, Koshyari has been criticised by the Opposition and asked to resign over a number of issues. On Monday, he said that he had told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he wanted to step down.

“When the Honourable Prime Minister came to Mumbai recently, I told him that I wanted to be free of all political responsibilities and spend the rest of my life reading, writing, and doing other things. In a statement released by Raj Bhavan, Koshyari said, “I have always been treated with love and respect by the Honourable Prime Minister, and I hope that will continue in this case.”

Last September, Amarinder combined his party, Punjab Lok Congress, with the BJP. He started the party before the Punjab Assembly elections. After Navjot Singh Sidhu became president of the Punjab Congress Committee in November 2021, he left the Congress.
