Ace skier Aanchal Thakur won bronze by finishing third at the FIS Alpine Skiing Competition. The victory has been touted as a notable achievement for India.
In an official news released on Twitter, journalist Farhat Naik has informed that Aanchal Thakur finished third at the FIS Alpine Skiing Competition being held in Montenegro. It was mentioned that Farhat Naik was notified about the victory by Aanchal Thakur’s father.
This is not the first time that Aanchal Thakur has made India proud by winning international laurels in winter sports. As a matter of fact, she is the 1st Indian Ski athlete who has received two medals at the global level.
Aanchal Thakur previously took bronze in the 2018 FIS Alpine 3200 Cup in Turkey. She was the first Indian woman to ever win a medal in a winter sports championship. She has competed in four World Championships, the first of which she attended when she was 16 years old in 2013.
She finished third in this year’s FIS Alpine Ski Competition with an overall time of 1:54:30. Georgia Epiphaniou, who was only 2 seconds ahead of her, finished second. This is fantastic triumph for India, as the country has very few winter sports players. It will also go a long way toward promoting the demand for additional investment in winter sports in India.
