Anil Kapoor has earned a spot in TIME’s prestigious list of ‘100 Most Influential People in AI,’ featuring in the ‘Shapers’ category. His inclusion on the list, along with his appearance on the magazine’s cover, has sparked curiosity among Indian fans, many of whom are questioning the reason behind this recognition.
Kapoor’s recognition comes shortly after his legal victory against the unauthorized use of his likeness through artificial intelligence. In September this year, the Delhi High Court ruled in his favor, with Justice Prathiba M Singh presiding over the case. The actor took legal action after edited videos, emojis, and gifs featuring his likeness began circulating on social media platforms without his consent. Kapoor also sought to protect his iconic catchphrase ‘jhakaas’, first popularized in the 1985 Hindi film Yudh.
The court prohibited 16 defendants from using any part of Kapoor’s persona, including his name, image, voice, or catchphrase, for creating merchandise, ringtones, or other products for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
Anil Kapoor said in an interview, “I think (the decision) is very progressive and great not only for me but for other actors also … Because of the way AI technology is evolving every day. It’s not only for me. Today I’m there to protect myself, but when I’m not there, the family should have the right to protect my (personality) and gain from it in future.”
That is really thought-provoking, isn’t it?
