Filmmaker Anurag Basu sees no major difference between the Hindi and Korean film industries, describing both as “young”. However, in a recent interview, he pointed out a key distinction—while Indian films primarily cater to a specific audience, Korean cinema has managed to reach a global viewership.
Discussing the current standing of Indian films on the world stage, Anurag Basu acknowledged that international audiences have started taking notice but emphasized that there is still a long way to go.
He observed that mainstream Indian cinema remains focused on the domestic audience and the Indian diaspora, whereas Korean films are watched by people worldwide. In his view, Bollywood’s approach is largely limited to weekend box office numbers and blockbuster milestones, whereas Korean films have successfully transcended cultural boundaries.
In the same conversation, Basu also shared updates on his much-anticipated film Aashiqui 3, starring Kartik Aaryan. While the project is still in the pre-production stage, he confirmed that filming is set to begin next month, adding to the excitement surrounding the next installment of the beloved franchise.
