Anurag Kashyap Lauds Sandeep Vanga’s Animal, Says People Got Shocked Coz Of Ranbir Kapoor

Sandeep Reddy Vanga directed Animal was one of the biggest hits of the last year but the movie was slammed a lot as well because many felt that it is toxic, problematic and insulting towards women. While some celebs spoke against the film and the director, there were several others who spoke in support of the director.

This was not the first time that Sandeep Reddy Vanga got criticized, earlier he was slammed for his movie, Arjun Reddy and its remake Kabir Singh.

Recently famous director Anurag Kashyap posted a photo with the Animal director and called him a “misunderstood” director.

During a conversation, Anurag Kashyap said, “The action in Animal was very real. Ranbir Kapoor was very good, the music was great, some detailings were very good. But what I liked most about Animal was that a stubborn filmmaker went ahead and made an adult film of 3 hours and 25 minutes. He fought and got it released in cinemas. It takes me straight back to Bombay Velvet. It was almost 3 hours long and I couldn’t fight for it, I was on the back foot. I had to cut it and raid it myself. I learnt that being ziddi (stubborn) sometimes as a filmmaker is not a bad thing. If you see the nuances there can be a lot of things, it doesn’t necessarily mean that everything about Animal, I endorse or condone. No. If I have issues I’ll discuss it with the filmmaker.”

Anurag Kashyap also revealed as to what shocked the audiences, he said, “Why did the film become difficult? Because everybody’s favourite played the role and he did it with all his conviction rather than being politically correct or diplomatically correct, or correct for a section of things. He went all out to play a person that was problematic all the way.”

Do you agree with Anurag Kashyap?
