Anurag Kashyap’s much-anticipated noir thriller Kennedy, featuring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone, remains in limbo despite making a splash at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
The film, entangled in the financial struggles of ZEE Studios, has yet to see a commercial release. In an interview, Anurag Kashyap opened up about the roadblock, revealing that while the film has been finalized and cleared by the censor board, its future now lies in the hands of a studio grappling with financial losses and the departure of key executives who had championed the project.
Anurag Kashyap, however, is no stranger to stalled projects. Reflecting on Kennedy’s origins, he disclosed that the film was initially conceived as a script for Malayalam superstar Mohanlal.
He had envisioned the project with his longtime collaborator and cinematographer Rajeev Ravi as the director.
When the initial plan failed to materialize, Kashyap repurposed the narrative, ultimately transforming it into Kennedy, a film that now finds itself waiting for its moment to reach the audience.
