Actor-politician Kamal Haasan is currently facing significant criticism over his contentious assertion that “Kannada was born out of Tamil”, a statement made ahead of the release of his film Thug Life. In response to the growing backlash, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) has articulated its position: they are open to discussions, but an apology is a prerequisite.

“We are ready to hold talks across the table if Kamal Haasan’s team comes to us. Let them come to us. They have caused immense hurt to us,” stated M Narasimhalu, president of KFCC, during a conversation with News18. He further emphasized, “But there is a need for an apology. He has hurt every single Kannadiga across the country with his statement.” Narasimhalu also voiced the KFCC’s complete support for the Karnataka High Court’s firm stance on the matter, affirming that the court’s observations were “absolutely on point”.

He added, “If we don’t stand with the people of Karnataka, they will never forgive us.” These comments from the KFCC president followed a high-level meeting involving key industry stakeholders, convened after the court’s strong remarks criticizing Haasan’s controversial statement, which was made at the Chennai audio launch of Thug Life, scheduled for release on June 5.
