Apple to drop iOS 17 support for many iPhones; check out the list

Apple releases new operating systems in the fall, but some outdated gadgets may not be able to upgrade. The company is dropping iOS 17 support for many iPhones, but watchOS 9 will continue to be supported.

Every year in the fall, Apple releases the newest operating systems across its entire product range. The tech giant will unavoidably leave behind some outdated gadgets, as custom demands. You won’t be able to update to the impending iOS 17 if you still have an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X (which, let’s be honest, was a terrific gadget). Your iPhone must have an A12 Bionic processor or a later model in order to install the latest OS.

But if you have an iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, iPhone SE (second-gen), or any other more recent model, you’ll be able to take advantage of a number of intriguing features, like Live Voicemail transcripts, the StandBy display mode, and better autocorrect.

Apple has a plethora of updates planned for the future iPadOS that will benefit iPad owners. The iPad experience is anticipated to be enriched with features including customizable lock screens, an improved Health app, interactive widgets, and many more. Unfortunately, users of the original 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the fifth-generation iPad will be unable to upgrade to iPadOS 17.

The following iPad models, however, will be supported: The following models of iPad are available: iPad (6th generation and later), iPad mini (5th generation and later), iPad Air (3rd generation and later), 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation and later), 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation and later).

All devices running watchOS 9 will continue to get support, which is good news for Apple Watch consumers. The next watchOS 10 will be available to anyone who are fortunate enough to possess an Apple Watch Series 4 or a later model, and it will emphasize widgets and provide improvements to applications like Cycling and Compass, among other intriguing additions.

With the release of macOS Sonoma, Mac users should anticipate some significant adjustments as well. In addition to a number of innovations, this desktop and laptop operating system will debut a Game Mode that enhances CPU and GPU performance, providing gamers with better framerates.

MacOS Sonoma will be compatible with the following Mac models: MacBook Air (2018 and later), Mac mini (2018 and later), MacBook Pro (2018 and later), and iMac (2019 and later), as well as Mac Pro (2019 and later), iMac Pro (2017), and Mac Studio (2022 and later).

The major update from last year, macOS Ventura, was compatible with the MacBook Air models from 2018 and later, the Mac mini models from 2018 and later, the MacBook and MacBook Pro models from 2017 and later, as well as the iMac models from 2017 and later.

Finally, tvOS 17 will provide Apple TV access to long-awaited FaceTime features. Among other new capabilities, customers may exult in the ability to utilize their iPhone to find a lost remote. The Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD will also support this operating system.
