Asha Parekh, the senior Bollywood actress is undoubtedly one of the most loved actresses of the yesteryears and she has given many hit movies during her working days. She had worked with almost all the big actors of her time including Shammi Kapoor with whom she worked in Teesri Manzil, Pagla Kahin Ka, Dil Deke Dekho, etc.
Recently, the senior actress appeared in Arbaaz Khan’s podcast and revealed an interesting incident in which a rumour of her and Shammi’s marriage was spread intentionally and they decided to play it along. She told that the rumour was started by filmmaker Om Prakash. Though they both decided to play a prank on everyone, the person whom Shammi was dating at that time got a little upset with this.
She said, “This is a long story. We were shooting in Mahabaleshwar and I don’t know what came upon Om Prakash ji, he declared that Shammi and I are married. Then there was a party at Mr Nasser Hussain’s place, people started whispering (about the marriage rumours). I said, ‘Yes, we are married.’ (Renowned journalist) Devyani Chaubal was also in the room. She heard the rumour.”
She further added that Shammi asked her not to rubbish the rumours, “He said, ‘Don’t tell anything.’ He was playing a prank (with everyone). At that time, he was having an affair with somebody. So that person got very upset.”
Shammi Kapoor got married to Geeta Bali in 1955 and then he got married to Neila Devi Gohil in 1969 after Geeta Bali’s death in 1965. However, Asha Parekh remained single in her life and also worked as producer-director.
