The player selected by GT head coach Ashish Nehra to fill the finisher position for his team in the next IPL season
In the 2019 Indian Premier League season, Shahrukh Khan, as a finisher in the lower-middle order, is expected to be crucial for Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra’s team. The Gujarat Titans’ youthful players have thrived in the previous few seasons under Nehra’s direction. Managing the young players in the IPL 2024 would be a major challenge for Nehra, as they will be playing under the inexperienced skipper Shubman Gill. In the batting and bowling categories, the team must also locate the best Hardik Pandy substitute.
In order to secure some fresh talent who can step into the huge shoes, the 2022 IPL winners spent a lot of money during the IPL 2024 Auction. Despite Shahrukh’s lacklustre performance in the past several IPL seasons with the Punjab Kings, they signed him for an incredible INR 7.4 crore.
In 33 IPL games thus far in his career, the Tamil Nadu batsman has only amassed 426 runs at an average of 20.29. In the meanwhile, he must rise to the occasion for Gujarat in the forthcoming campaign.
According to Nehra, Shahrukh will be the Titans’ main finisher in the upcoming campaign. Nehra informed the reporters, “We’re going to see Shahrukh Khan become the main actor.”
The seasoned Indian pacer advised the players to look for their bodies as well, given that May’s weather will be difficult for them.
“The Indian Premier League is an extremely extended competition. We’re not playing three, four, or five games at a time. May and June also present challenging conditions. Players will find it difficult, particularly those who bowl quickly. Additionally, injuries may occur. Thus, each player on our team is vital, and the ones we do have are skilled,” he continued.
In the meanwhile, he hinted that the Titans will need to make significant additions in Spencer Johnson and Azmatullah Omarzai. Spencer Johnson has performed admirably in every game that he has played. Once more, Azmatullah Omarzai is a terrific all-around player, and we are really optimistic about their success in the IPL,” he remarked.
Rashid Khan, the ace spinner, must spearhead the Titans’ bowling assault in Mohammed Shami’s absence. Nehra stated that they have not yet made a decision on the kind of pitches they would prepare for the 2024 Indian Premier League.
“We haven’t made up our minds on it, but I doubt that… Ultimately, all you need to do is play quality cricket. Red dirt and black soil don’t really differ that much. It’s really only a slight bounce,” he said.
