Gujarat Titans (GT) head coach Ashish Nehra has hailed Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah as a once-in-a-generation talent, emphasizing that no amount of money could equate to his value. Ashish Nehra’s remarks come amid discussions about Bumrah’s significance to Mumbai Indians (MI) and Indian cricket.
Jasprit Bumrah has been a cornerstone of the Mumbai Indians squad since joining the franchise in 2013. To secure his services, MI retained Jasprit Bumrah for a record-breaking INR 18 crore, making him the costliest player in the team’s history for the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Over 11 seasons with MI, Bumrah has featured in 128 matches, claiming 158 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 7.33. His consistent performances have solidified his reputation as one of the best bowlers in the IPL.
Speaking to a sports channel, Ashish Nehra speculated on what might have happened if Bumrah had entered the IPL auction.
“Agar Jassi auction main hote to kya kya hota? 520 crore ka bhi purse kam padhta,” (If Jasprit Bumrah was in the auction, what could have happened? Even a purse of INR 520 crore wouldn’t have been enough), Nehra joked, underscoring Bumrah’s unparalleled talent.
Bumrah’s value extends beyond the IPL. On the international stage, he has become a vital asset for India. Recently, he captained the team to a historic win against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, further cementing his legacy.
Bumrah’s contributions to Mumbai Indians and Indian cricket are immeasurable. While MI fans celebrate his record retention, cricket enthusiasts worldwide recognize the brilliance he brings to the game.
As Nehra aptly put it, some players are simply beyond valuation.
