Ashwin Expresses Sympathy For Pakistan’s Greats After Historic Whitewash By Bangladesh

Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his sympathy for the Pakistan’s greats after the Pakistani team struggled against Bangladesh. Pakistan faced a major setback when they were whitewashed at home by Bangladesh, marking a new low in their cricketing history. Bangladesh secured a 10-wicket win in the first Test in Rawalpindi, achieving their first-ever victory against Pakistan in the longest format. The historic series concluded with another win for Bangladesh in the second Test by six wickets at the same venue.

This extended Pakistan’s winless streak in home Test matches to 10, with six losses and four draws. Their last home victory came over three years ago, in February 2021, against South Africa.
The series loss had a significant impact on Pakistan’s Test rankings, dropping them to No. 8 with their lowest rating points since 1965. The results highlight the ongoing struggles of the Pakistan Test team, which has faced criticism for its recent performances at home.

Ravichandran Ashwin commented on the situation, expressing his disappointment in seeing the state of Pakistan cricket, a team that once had a strong presence in world cricket.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said, “What a victory for Bangladesh but what a disappointment for Pakistan. It’s quite disappointing because Pakistan is not an easy team to beat. But more than 1000 days at home Pakistan haven’t won at home. Pakistani cricket fans are passionate.”
He further added, “You know who I feel for the most? It’s Pakistan cricket’s history. Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, Imran Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Ijaz Ahmed, Salim Malik, Saeed Anwar, Amer Sohail… I can just keep on going. What legacy that country and their cricket team has.”
Pakistani cricket is certainly going through a tough phase.
