Ravichandran Ashwin Shockingly Alleges Why He Was Not Made Team India’s Captain

It was a big surprise or rather we should say a shock for many cricket lovers and former cricketers that Ravichandran Ashwin was not included in the Indian squad for the WTC final which India lost to Australia by 209 runs. The skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid were slammed heavily by fans for not playing the number one test bowler in such an important match and even Sachin Tendulkar talked about this mistake in the tweet which he made for congratulating Australia on their win.

Though earlier Ashwin defended the decision of not playing him but it is quite obvious that it must have hurt him and recently he talked about how the tag of “overthinker” was designed to hamper his progress and for restricting him from taking the role of a leader in the team.

Ashwin stated, “Many individuals promoted and portrayed me as someone who overthinks. When you know you’ll only get two games, it’s natural to be overwhelmed and overanalyze because it’s part of my role… The label of being an overthinker was deliberately designed to undermine me, isn’t it?”

After Virat Kohli gave up captaincy, R Ashwin was one of the most experienced players of the Indian cricket team but his name was not considered for captaincy and the selectors chose Rohit Sharma as the new skipper of the Indian team.

R Ashwin has two years of experience of leading a team as he was the skipper of Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2018 and 2019 but both the times, the team failed in performing well and couldn’t even enter the play-offs.

Is Ashwin correct when he talks about the tag of “overthinker”? What do you think?
