Ashwin Takes A Dig At Rohit & Team Management With MS Dhoni’s Example

A hurt Ashwin expresses his emotions by citing the example of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

Rohit Sharma, the skipper of the Indian cricket team, is under constant criticism because of his failure in making his team win big tournaments such as Asia Cup 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and recently the Indian squad also lost the WTC final under his leadership.

Rohit Sharma’s captaincy skills were also questioned as he chose to exclude the Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin from the squad despite the fact he is currently the number one test bowler and he was the third highest wicket taker in this WTC cycle and the highest wicket taker when it comes to Indian bowlers with 61 wickets.

Many former cricketers slammed not only Rohit Sharma but the Indian head coach Rahul Dravid as well for this decision. Undoubtedly, Ravichandran Ashwin was also hurt and now he has taken a jibe at Rohit Sharma and the current Indian team management by citing the example of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, R Ashwin stated, “It is understandable that there’s a furore in India that we haven’t won an ICC trophy in 10 years. I empathise with the fans. But the reaction on social media is that this player should be dropped and that player should be included. But quality of a player doesn’t change overnight. Lot of us talk about MS Dhoni’s leadership. What did he do? He kept it very simple. Under his regime, where I also played, he will pick a squad of 15. The same squad of 15 and the XI will play throughput the year. That sense of security is very important for a player.”

Earlier in an interview, he also talked about the tag of overthinker which has been attached with him, he said, “A lot of people marketed me and positioned me that I am an overthinker. A person who will get 15-20 matches on the go doesn’t have to be mentally overthinking. A person who knows that they will get only two games will be traumatised and will be overthinking because it’s my job. It’s my journey. So this is what suits me. If somebody is going to tell me, ‘you’re going to play 15 matches, you will be looked after, you will be this, you are responsible for players, you are in the leadership role, I won’t be overthinking. Why would I?”

What do you think of Rohit Sharma’s captaincy at the international level?
