Aussie Star Cricketer Joins Team As A Coach Immediately After Taking Retirement

Australian wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade announced his retirement from international cricket on October 29, ending a distinguished 13-year career. Wade, 36, represented Australia in 36 Tests, 97 ODIs, and 92 T20Is, contributing significantly across formats and playing a crucial role in Australia’s T20 World Cup win in 2021. His last appearance for Australia was in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against India on June 24.

Throughout his career, Wade amassed 1,613 runs in Tests, 1,867 in ODIs, and 1,202 in T20Is. Known for his leadership skills, he also captained Australia’s T20I side occasionally. Although he is stepping away from the international stage, Wade will continue to play white-ball cricket for Tasmania, the Hobart Hurricanes, and in select overseas leagues.

Transitioning into a coaching role, Wade will now serve as Australia’s assistant coach, focusing on wicketkeeping and fielding. His coaching debut with the national team will come during the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan, scheduled for November 14, 16, and 18 in Brisbane, Sydney, and Hobart.
