Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has informed about a cut in airfares by 61% on flights from Delhi. The government and DGCA are keeping an eye on daily prices.
Following a meeting of the airlines’ advisory committee on June 6, according to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, airfares on several flights out of Delhi have been significantly cut from 14% to 61%.
The minister expressed his delight with the price cuts for flights linking Delhi to other locations including Srinagar, Leh, Pune, and Mumbai.
Scindia said, “I am happy to say that the maximum fares on flights connecting Delhi to Srinagar, Leh, Pune, and Mumbai were reduced by 14 to 61 percent on June 6.” The government and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are keeping an eye on the daily prices.
The minister also emphasized the progress made in the aviation industry over the last nine years by the BJP-led government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to Scindia, airlines are in charge of setting rates, and a number of variables, such as seasonality and market dynamics, are taken into consideration. An algorithm is used in the aviation sector to determine price.
“The airlines have been granted the authority to set market-controlled airfares. Seasonal fluctuations affect the nation’s aviation sector. The prices are also set appropriately. Rates will be high if capacity is limited, demand is strong, and input prices are not decreased. The fare is determined by an algorithm, he claimed.
He stated that there should be a cap on rate increases across sectors and that private aircraft businesses have their own societal obligations.
Jyotiraditya Scindia asserts that the aviation ministry serves as a facilitator rather than a regulator. He presided over the high-level meeting that the airline advisory committee organized on Monday and asked airlines to self-regulate airfares and maintain fair pricing ranges.
“Fare rates need to be addressed since there have been some unanticipated events in Manipur and now in Odisha. Apart from these, the minister stated that Delhi continues to have the highest travel rates to cities like Srinagar, Leh, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru.
