In the present times, we have many options for getting entertained as there are many TV channels and digital platforms as well but in the older times, there was only one channel Doordarshan and only few serials used to be aired on TV and that too, on a weekly basis.
Nowadays we have many news channels but in those times, news was aired for a limited time in both languages – Hindi and English.
People who are from the 90s era are in a state of sorrow as recently the Doordarshan anchor Gitanjali Aiyar passed away. The award winning anchor Gitanjali who was in mid-70s was one of the first English news presenters of the national channel and she left the world on Wednesday.
The close friend of Gitanjali Aiyar told that she was suffering from Parkinson, she was getting treated for the disease and on Wednesday, she collapsed at home after returning from a walk.
A graduate of Loreto College, Kolkata, joined Doordarshan in the year 1971 and she won the best anchor award four times in her career. In 1989, she was also awarded with the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award for Outstanding Women and she has also acted in few serials and commercials as well.
congress leader Netta D’Souza tweeted,
“We fondly remember the days when Gitanjali Aiyar ji graced our TV screens, leaving an indelible mark on our news-watching experiences.
Saddened by her untimely demise, my heartfelt condolences to her loved ones. May she find eternal peace.”
We have certainly lost a gem who is survived by a son and a daughter.
