Babar Azam’s Struggles Continue as Pakistan Faces Tough Test Against Bangladesh

The former Pakistan captain & star batter Babar Azam’s rough patch in Test cricket persisted as he managed just 11 runs in his latest innings during the second Test against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Monday. His dismissal extended a troubling streak—Babar has now gone 616 days without scoring a half-century in Test matches. Fans on social media were quick to express their frustration, criticizing the star batsman for his prolonged slump.

Pakistan, who put up 274 runs in their first innings on Day 2, gained a significant advantage early on as their fast bowlers reduced Bangladesh to a precarious 26 for six within the first seven overs. Despite this, Bangladesh mounted a remarkable comeback with a 165-run partnership between Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, bringing their total to 212, just 12 runs shy of Pakistan’s score.

On Day 4, Pakistan aimed to build on their slim lead but faltered, losing six wickets for just 81 runs in the opening hour. Among those dismissed was Babar Azam, whose lean run has seen his Test average drop below 45. His last half-century in the format came against New Zealand in the opening Test at Karachi in December 2022. As Pakistan fights to avoid a series whitewash, Babar’s struggles remain a major concern for the team and its supporters.
