Barcelona gears up for Camp Nou final match; renovations will cost £782M

Barcelona is preparing to play their final match in the Camp Nou until the 2024-25 season due to extensive renovations costing £782 million. Before making a temporary move to another illustrious venue, Barcelona is getting ready to play their final match ever in the Camp Nou in its existing configuration till the 2024-23 season. This match will take place before the Catalan club makes the move.

As a result of the extensive renovations that are being done, the world-famous stadium will be unavailable for use by Barcelona throughout the upcoming season. As part of the makeover that will cost a record £782 million, more VIP seats will be installed, raising the total number of seats to a staggering 105,000. This stadium set a new high attendance record with 91,648 fans watching from the stands. This record was established during the Champions League match between the Barcelona Women’s team and the Wolfsburg Women’s team.

The city’s Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, which hosted the athletics competition at the Olympic Games in 1992 and served as Espanyol’s old home until they relocated to another stadium, will serve as the club’s permanent field for the next season. The stadium was named after Lluis Companys, who was the mayor of the city at the time of the Olympic Games.

The makeshift stadium has a capacity of just 55,000 people, which will be a major letdown for thousands of people planning to attend El Clasico as well as significant European evening events. Even though the refurbishment won’t be completely done until the 2026–27 campaign, Barca has every intention of returning to the Nou Camp as soon as it is finished for the 2024–25 season, albeit with a capacity that is cut in half from what it was before.

At the same time that Mallorca plays the team that wins La Liga on Sunday, there will be a farewell party held at the Nou Camp. Because an emotional mosaic is going to be created before the game, everyone of the fans are being requested to wear the colors that represent their favorite team.

In the interim, the players are going to wear a special shirt that says “Ple d’historia” on it. A depiction of the stadium together with the words “Full of the past, full of the future” (Full of history, full of the future), the years 1957 to 2023, with the slogan “Full of history, full of the future.”

Major preparations are also being made for the after-match festivities, which will include a traditional sardana dance that will be performed by regional dance groups around the center circle to an original interpretation of the Barcelona song.

Then, as a symbol of the stadium being handed down from one generation to the next, one of the members who has been there the longest and an associate of the Barca Senate will give presents to two of the newest members.
