In his 15-year acting career, Barun Sobti has maintained a unique stance—he has never kissed anyone onscreen. Despite engaging in intimate scenes (such as in Kohrra) and even going fully nude in a short film (Derma), the actor draws a firm line when it comes to kissing. Sobti attributes this to an unspoken promise he made to his wife, Pashmeen Manchanda, during their younger years when she asked if his acting career would involve “going around kissing everyone”.
In a recent interview, Barun shared, “I haven’t kissed anyone onscreen. But I’ve been fortunate that I’ve rarely had to reject work because of that. Most directors were willing to omit kissing scenes from the script because they wanted me for the role and didn’t see it as essential to the story. If I’ve turned down a project, it’s usually because I didn’t like the script.”
He went on to explain that sometimes the chemistry between characters plays a significant role in the story. “In such cases, there’s no point in asking to remove the kissing scene. I’ve used date conflicts as an excuse when I knew it wouldn’t work without the kiss. But whenever I felt that the scene wasn’t crucial, I requested its removal, and directors have always been accommodating,” Sobti added.
