Discovering the best skin care routine for dry skin type need not be a daunting task at all. The journey to a clear and glowing skin might have a bit of trial and error but once you tackle the concerns, you can sit back and relax.

What is Dry Skin?

Dry skin means that your skin can not retain moisture for a long time and thus develops tiny cracks on the surface. It can feel itchy and uncomfortable and thus needs regular hydration.

Generally speaking, a normal skin care routine consists of an effective cleanse followed by a specialized treatment based on your specific skin type and a good quality moisturizer. This can also be supplemented with your favourite face mask for an extra glow.

As dry skin is sensitive and prone to frequent breakouts, the morning routine should be followed consistently for optimum results. Follow these steps every day to get that perfect glow all day.

Cleanser – Cleansing is essential for all skin types but if your skin is dry, use cleansers that have additional moisturizers so that they don’t strip away the much-needed face oils. Gentle cleansers with hydrating ingredients such as glycerine, and hyaluronic acids are good for this skin type.

Toner – Toners help remove leftover dirt and oil. Although optional, if you want to use toners, choose ones that are alcohol-free and contain soothing and hydrating ingredients like Vitamin E and Aloe vera.

Serum – Serums like ceramides, niacinamide, panthenol, and Vitamin E replenish hydration levels and enhance the skin barriers. Vitamin C serums can also be used as it helps prevent hyperpigmentation and brightens the skin.

Moisturizer – People with dry skin should use oil-based moisturizers that lock in moisture and rebuild the skin barrier.

Sunscreen – Apply sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin from UV rays. Using sunscreen before going out helps reduce wrinkles, skin cancer and sun spots.
