The long-standing feud between Bipasha Basu and Kareena Kapoor, which began during the shooting of Ajnabee, has been the subject of speculation for years. While Bipasha herself had spoken about it on Koffee With Karan in 2005, the exact cause of their disagreement remained unclear. Now, actress Amita Nangia, who was also part of Ajnabee, has finally shed light on what sparked the tension between the two stars.
In a recent interview, Amita revealed that the fight was over costumes, as both actresses wanted the same designer. While the clash did create a buzz on set, it didn’t directly affect the other cast members. “What could we say? We would hear about it and react to it. It was their debut,” she shared. Though Ajnabee marked Bipasha’s first Bollywood film, Kareena had already appeared in three movies before this project.
Reflecting on her experience with both actresses, Amita described Kareena as reserved, often accompanied by her mother, which made it difficult to bond with her. “We were friendly—we would sit together and talk—but I couldn’t really relate to her,” she admitted. As for Bipasha, Amita noted that the actress was entirely focused on her performance and not particularly social.
While years have passed since their much-talked-about feud, the revelation adds a new perspective to what was once one of Bollywood’s most-discussed rivalries.
