Smriti Irani thanks Congress for stating that “we can’t defeat PM Modi alone” at the meeting of opposition leaders.
The Congress is seeking help from other parties because it is “incapable of defeating Prime Minister Narendra Modi alone” un the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP claimed on Friday, mocking the opposition parties’ efforts to form a front against it.
Top opposition party leaders met in Patna on Friday to plot out a strategy for creating an anti-BJP front ahead of the general elections in 2019. Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar and a member of the Janata Dal (United), and Tejashwi Yadav, a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, held the meeting.
The JDU and other opposition parties came under fire from BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani, who called it “ironic” that some of the leaders who saw the “murder of democracy” during the Emergency were gathered in Patna under the Congress’ umbrella.
“The people now have more power than the palace has. People who take pleasure in their political legacy now have to visit those who were imprisoned during the Emergency, she continued.
Ms. Irani made reference to the recent collapse of a bridge over the Ganga in the state’s Bhagalpur area and questioned, “What kind of democratic bridge will they make?” in a covert assault on the chief minister of Bihar. Even a bridge cannot be built by them.
People are becoming more aware of individuals who are using blackmail instead of collaborating on development issues, according to Ms. Irani.
