Day after day, scammers and cyber fraud are rising. Delhi journalist Archit Gupta reported on a Bumble dating app fraud where he met Divya Sharma.

Scammers and cyber fraud are rising, and a Delhi journalist met a woman on Bumble. He said they started communicating because the woman wanted a ‘meaningful connection’. He stated she left their first date midway after making him order food and beverages, which cost him over Rs 15,000, and then fled ‘incognito’.

The journalist called the affair “not just a fraud but emotional harassment” on social media, where Archit Gupta posted details.

Divya Sharma (false identity, later identified as Aifya by Truecaller) messaged Archit on the dating app, seeking a serious relationship.

Exactly what happened?

For establishment, they met in “The Race Lounge and Bar” in Rajouri Garden, West Delhi. After booking, Gupta allegedly requested Rs 16,000 in drinks and food.

Social media confession of journalist

Gupta posted on X (previously Twitter), “Let’s try Bumble to see if there’s a real person to date. Divya Sharma (false name) invited me to Rajouri Garden. She convinced me she wanted something meaningful.”

From the restroom, Gupta noticed the bill was missing from the table.

He added, “She led me to Race Lounge and Bar. Truecaller reports that Aifya (her real name) suggested I sit there despite not liking the venue. She ordered drinks for herself. I ordered a Red Bull since I don’t drink. A hookah, 2-3 glasses of wine, 1 vodka shot, chicken tikka, and a water bottle cost Rs 15,886.

I was astonished at the bill. I paid the bill. Their machine was malfunctioning, so they tapped my card four times. After using the restroom, I noticed that the bill I left on the table was gone. She insisted on going, stating her brother would pick her up. When I got home, I realized it was a hoax.

I checked and she had disappeared and was not answering my calls. I then saw a media report about how clubs and pubs are recruiting ladies and committing fraud. For someone who believes the person in front of him is real, this is emotional and mental torture along with money. I checked it out and found reviews on that lounge’s Google page.”

How did Gupta get help?

Gupta reported his attempts to contact the Axis Bank credit card hotline and cyber police helpline after seeing their inaction.

He said, “Many reviews complained about unjust bills. Many are cheated by these clubs. I disputed the payment with Axis Bank’s credit card helpdesk late at night. I called the cyber police helpline multiple times but got no response.”

The Rajouri Garden region of Delhi has many cafes and clubs that use paid bouncers to force contributors to contribute, according to Gupta.

He said, “This message is about these folks misleading numerous boys, which is emotional harassment, not simply a hoax. They don’t fear; they recruited bouncers to force customers to pay the unreasonable charge. They operate in various Rajouri Garden Area cafes and clubs, making a great noise.
