Australia’s preparations for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy against India have been dealt a significant blow, with Cameron Green expected to miss the entire summer due to a worsening back injury. Initial reports suggested Green might participate in the series as a specialist batter, with the possibility of resuming bowling later on. However, updated assessments indicate that his injury is more severe than originally thought.
According to a cricket portal, the injury is serious enough for Australia to plan their summer without Green. Renowned Australian journalist Peter Lalor reported that Green has “no chance” of being fit for the first Test against India, scheduled for November 22 in Perth. There is growing doubt about his availability for the rest of the series as well, with some concerns that he may not play at all this summer.
While it is unclear whether Cameron Green will require surgery, his involvement in the much-anticipated Test series against India seems highly unlikely. Already ruled out of the first round of the Sheffield Shield, starting this week, Green is also expected to miss the second round of matches. This further diminishes his chances of returning to competitive cricket any time soon.
As of late Tuesday, there was still some hope that Green might be fit enough to bat for Australia during the series, even if he couldn’t bowl. Former Australian team doctor Peter Brukner commented that a back-stress injury wouldn’t necessarily prevent Green from batting or fielding once the initial pain subsided and the healing process began. However, given the worsening condition of the injury, it seems increasingly unlikely that Green will participate in any capacity.
