When actors Ranveer Singh and Kriti Sanon were spotted doing Temple Run at the ghats of Kashi last week, everybody was waiting for a film announcement from the duo. However, it was celebrity Designer Manish Malhotra who brought the style Divas together to walk the ramp at popular Namo Ghat for his breathtaking collection aimed to showcase Varanasi’s handicrafts and handlooms on a global platform. The event was organised by the Indian Minorities Foundation to promote India’s heritage and Kashi’s century-old history with handicrafts. Manish themed his collection as Modern Fashion & Tradition and the showstoppers- Ranveer wore a metallic and dark-coloured sherwani while Kriti wore a red bridal lehenga.

There is a remarkable growth of Indian weaves on the global stage over the last five years, highlighting the role of the Indian government, Top designers, and Bollywood, in making it a fashion statement.

According to ace designer Manish Malhotra, Banarasi weaves carry an exquisite appeal that has transcended generations, showcased their timeless appeal and cultural significance and made them a coveted choice for fashion enthusiasts worldwide.

The weaving heritage from one of the world’s oldest cities- Varanasi is gold as far as fashion fabric is concerned. And designer Manish Malhotra is known for his deep-rooted respect for Indian culture. The reason why these iconic weaves are often showcased in his collections, paying homage to the rich heritage of Varanasi’s craftsmanship.

These Zari-woven patterned silk brocades have a timeless Elegance. The 1600s era fabric is primarily created using a pit loom, where silk warp threads are laid on a frame in a repeat pattern depending upon the size of the jacquard.
