CERT-In has Indian users warned about security flaws in Google Chrome OS. The security flaws allow remote attackers to run unauthorized code or gain system access.
Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a strong warning regarding Google Chrome OS security issues. Chrome OS versions before 114.0.5735.350 on the LTS channel include vulnerabilities that allow remote attackers to run unauthorised programs or acquire high-level access to systems.
Due to Side Panel Search problems and insufficient extension data validation, users must correct these weaknesses.
Users could be tricked into visiting websites that activate the vulnerabilities. CERT-In advises updating Chrome OS to 114.0.5735.350 or later to remain safe. These upgrades fix these issues.
Be careful when visiting the internet, especially on new sites, and avoid clicking on links from unknown sources or questionable emails and messages, according to CERT-In. They also advise installing dependable antivirus software, updating software and apps, and turning on firewalls to protect against threats.
Following the warning, CERT-In announced a “Cyber Swachhta Fortnight” from February 1 to 15, 2024, to battle botnets, which harm user computers. CERT-In and eScan launched the ‘Cyber Swachhta Kendra’ (CSK) and the eScan Botnet Scanning & Cleaning Toolkit for laptops, desktops, and smartphones to protect cyberspace from these dangers.
Conclusion
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has cautioned about Google Chrome OS vulnerabilities in versions before 114.0.5735.350. Remote attackers could launch unauthorised code or acquire high-level access using these weaknesses. Install Chrome OS 114.0.5735.350 or later for fixes, according to CERT-In. Users should browse cautiously, avoid questionable links, and follow security best practices. CERT-In’s “Cyber Swachhta Fortnight” fights botnets.
