TV actress Chahatt Khanna, best known for her role in Bade Acche Lagte Hai, recently revealed that her ex-husband Farhan Mirza influenced her decision to convert to his religion. In an interview, Chahatt described this decision as being a result of ‘brainwashing,’ though she now feels relieved to have returned to her original beliefs.
Chahatt shared that she grew up in a religious household and converted after marrying Farhan, the son of renowned screenwriter Shahrukh Mirza. After her marriage ended, she went through a phase of confusion but now expresses gratitude for reconnecting with her roots. When asked if she felt pressured into the conversion, Chahatt said, “Yes, in a way, yeah, I would say that. But I don’t know for their good or my good, but that is why I said, thankfully, I am back home.”
She further explained that while she was not explicitly forced to convert, she did so voluntarily to fulfill the requirements of a nikaah. “A lot of people did not want me to convert but I did because I wanted to do nikaah. Not that I was forced to convert but I did. And after that I was definitely told ‘Don’t worship your god, probably that is not the correct way, this is the correct way’ and I being a lost child followed that way,” she shared.
Reflecting on her experiences, Chahatt now feels at peace. “I think it was fine; it was not that bad. But then, I am happy, I am in a much happier space, I have more wisdom, I know what I am doing. I know what is correct and what is not, and I am living a very conscious life.”
Chahatt Khanna began her career in the entertainment industry at the age of 16, starring in a chocolate advertisement in 2002. Her acting debut came with the TV show Sachi Baat Sabhi Jag Jane, and she has since appeared in films like Thank You and Prassthanam. She first married businessman Bharat Narsinghani in 2006, but they divorced a year later after she accused him and his family of abuse. Chahatt later married Farhan Mirza in 2013, and their marriage ended in 2018 when she filed for divorce, citing harassment.
