The District Collector of Tamil Nadu has declared that today, November 25, all schools in Chennai, the state’s capital, will be closed owing to excessive rain.
For the next three hours, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are under a thunderstorm warning from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
In addition, the IMD stated that it anticipates moderate rain and sporadic thunderstorms in one or two locations across the districts of Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and the coastal regions of Villupuram and Cuddalore, as well as the Puducherry area.
An independent weather blogger in the city issued a notice at 7 am, stating that although the majority of Chennai has seen less rain, they are keeping an eye on the next round of thunderstorms, which are located around 25 km from the coast.
There’s a good probability that certain areas of Chennai may get more rain by 8 AM as it moves from E to W. As the storms approach, the precise impact area will become known,” they continued.
Unusually High Rainfall
Due to excessive rain in Tamil Nadu earlier this month on November 15, all schools, colleges, and other educational facilities in the districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Puducherry were closed.
On November 15, severe rain was seen in a number of locations in Tamil Nadu. Following heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu’s interior and coastal areas, several districts decided to cancel schooling.
