On Sunday, July 9, the Delhi Police reported that a guy was allegedly trying to get himself assigned as a top official for the Ganga Expressway project by pretending to be Union Home Minister Amit Shah as an Officer on Special Duty. An architect has been taken into custody.
He reported that a 48-year-old guy named Robin Upadhyay, a resident of Meerut in the Uttar Pradesh state, claimed to have spent more than 25 years working for numerous global corporations.
The position of vice-chairman-cum-project coordinator for the expressway project was Upadhyay’s goal.
When a man named Akshat Sharma complained to the New Delhi Cyber Police Station that he had received an email on his official ID from a “fake” email address from a man named Rajeev Kumar, Officer on Special Duty to the Union Home Minister, the situation came to light.
In his complaint, Sharma said that the guy claimed in a message that he had been requested to direct the appointment of Robin Upadhyay as Senior Associate Vice President/Project Coordinator for the Ganga Expressway project.
Police are looking into it
The police discovered throughout the inquiry that the email address rajeev.osd.mha@gmail.com was a fake that was made with the intention of misleading people.
“Our team narrowed down the primary suspect Robin Upadhyay based on technical surveillance, and based on technical investigation, it was discovered that the email was created six to seven days ago and was registered in Upadhyay’s name. According to initial questioning, the suspect was later located and held from his house in Meerut on Saturday evening before being arrested in connection with the crime, according to Hemant Tiwari, additional deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi).
After being questioned, Upadhyay revealed that he was a civil engineer with extensive expertise in civil construction projects and that he had considered getting a bogus reference to land a job, according to a police official.
He therefore looked up current highway projects and their status. Then he impersonated Rajeev Kumar, OSD in an email to the Union Minister of Home Affairs.
The CV he included demonstrated his qualifications for the position, according to Tiwari.
