College Friends Launches ‘Made-in-India’ Luxury E-SUV with 500 KM Range: Meet the Entrepreneurs Behind It

Siddhartha Bagri and his friend Dhawal Khullar formed Pravaig Dynamics, a deep tech startup that manufactured DEFY, a luxury electric SUV that is made-in-India with a range of 500 kilometres.

Pravaig Dynamics was founded by the team in 2011. Their objective was to create an electric car that addressed the issues they saw with existing technology.

The two discovered some big issues. To address these issues, they began developing prototypes. It worked on other projects to pay its R&D expenditures because it started as a wholly bootstrapped corporation. They created several direct-to-consumer items as well as AI technologies.

Siddhartha claims that they began by developing all of the other technologies necessary for an EV, including as chassis, suspension, and body technology, before producing prototypes. They also produced batteries for electric vehicles and built a battery facility in Bengaluru.

According to the creators, they created the DEFY in 10 months after developing the technology and batteries. The DEFY is described by the firm as “exceptionally performant, fantastically featured, and shockingly tough.” It has a 500-kilometer range and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 4.9 seconds, according to the manufacturer. They have begun taking orders, and the price is Rs 39.5 lakh (ex-showroom). They plan to begin deliveries in the middle of 2023. This ‘Made in India’ vehicle will compete with the Mercedes-Benz EQC, BMW iX, Audi e-Tron 50, and others. The DEFY will also be available with a complete carbon kit.

Over their 11-year journey, the organisation faced several hurdles. Their objective is to produce a million electric vehicles by 2027, with more than half of those vehicles exported.

Pravaig has 180-200 R&D staff and plans to add more in the next six months. Degrees, like its creator, are irrelevant when it comes to hiring.
