Comedian and writer Varun Grover has weighed in on the ongoing controversy surrounding Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent. The show has found itself in legal trouble after a joke made by Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as Beer Biceps, about ‘parents having sex’ sparked outrage. The backlash led to a police raid at the show’s venue, escalating the situation further.
Addressing the issue in his latest performance, Grover humorously requested his audience not to record his set. “I don’t want to go to jail because of a 6 MB video recorded on your Oppo phone,” he quipped. “If I have to go to jail, it should at least be for a high-quality 4K video that I have shot myself. That way, I might earn some respect. If it’s a shaky video, no one will even recognize me. I could just deny it, saying, ‘Sir, look closely—it’s Samay Raina.’”
Taking a direct dig at Ranveer Allahbadia, Grover didn’t hold back. “Beer Biceps—the moment you hear this name, you know his show should have been shut down ages ago,” he joked. “And that’s just based on the name alone. What he says is secondary. Beer Biceps? Sounds like a pornstar’s name from Gurgaon.”
Grover also mocked the police’s handling of the case, particularly their raid on the India’s Got Latent studio. “The police raided the studio where they shot the episode. It’s as if they thought the people involved were still sitting there, just waiting after uploading the episode,” he said. “They probably walked in and asked, ‘Where is Samay Raina?’ as if he would still be sitting there, waiting for someone to get offended.”
With his signature sharp wit, Grover turned the controversy into a comedy spectacle, poking fun at both the outrage and the authorities’ response. As the legal drama continues, one thing is clear—stand-up comedians are not backing down from making a joke out of it.
