During a religious event on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, a platform at the Kalkaji temple in Delhi fell, resulting in at least one woman’s death and 17 injuries. After being taken to a hospital, the injured individuals’ conditions are said to be stable.
The tragic occasion also featured a performance by singer B Praak. A single raised platform with an iron and wood frame was set up next to the main stage, police said, to accommodate the families of the organisers and VIPs attending a “Mata Jagran” at Kalkaji Mandir’s Mahant Parisar.
Around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, the raised platform gave way under the weight of everyone standing or sitting on it. According to authorities, a few persons seated beneath the platform sustained injury.
According to the police, no authorization was given to host the event, which drew between 1500 and 1600 attendees.
Despite the fact that the event was not authorised, according to the police, enough personnel were there to uphold law and order. For the previous 26 years, the festival has been held in the temple.
Following his performance at the event, singer B Praak sent a message on social media expressing his shock and wishing for the wounded parties’ quick recovery.
When I was playing there, this was the first time I had witnessed something like. It is tragic what transpired at the Kalkaji Mandir. “I hope those who were hurt get well soon,” he stated.
The artist also underlined how crucial it is to plan ahead and have appropriate management for these kinds of events.
Three fire departments were sent to the scene immediately following the horrific event. Ambulances transported all of the injured individuals to AIIMS Trauma Centre, Safdarjung Hospital, and MAX.
“A woman, who is yet nameless, was taken dead to MAX hospital. She was around 45 years old. Two persons in a car brought the deceased to the hospital. Police stated that efforts are on to identify the dead.
Following the visit by a Delhi Police crime squad, the organisers of the event are the subject of a case under sections 337, 304A, and 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against them.
An official stated that more investigation is ongoing.
