The Delhi Medical Council withdrew Dr. Neeraj Agarwal’s registration,
three times, as proprietor of Agarwal Medical Centre in Greater Kailash I due to medical negligence charges. DMC penalized Agarwal, who was arrested by police on Wednesday, officials said Thursday.
Dr. Arun Gupta, DMC president, confirmed six complaints against the medical facility for surgical incompetence and four penalties. Gupta said “Upon receiving a complaint, the council summons the hospital administration and the operating doctors and initiates an investigation to look into the complaint.”
In one case, DMC expelled Agarwal from the State Medical Register for 90 days. The council made its judgment after receiving a complaint that a woman died from medical malpractice at Agarwal Medical Centre. Agarwal was deregistered for 30 days for medical certificate issuing.
DMC says the errant doctor contested the council’s directives to the Indian Medical Council. “The police reported six hospital complaints. Gupta said they’ll send us these.
Wednesday saw the arrest of Agarwal, his wife Pooja, lab technician Mahender Singh, and surgeon Dr. Jaspreet Singh. Agarwal and others may have defrauded patients of Rs 80 crore by providing cheap surgery in recent years, according to police.
The police are requesting bank statements and other evidence to track the money. They have collected 47 bank cheque books, 54 ATM cards, post office passbooks, and six point-of-sale credit card devices. They also took two patient records and 400 prescription slips. A police officer stated the number of hospital admissions in the last five years is being determined.
The initial investigation reveals the offending centre reportedly offered package offers to patients’ families by comparing surgical costs at other private hospitals. Agarwal had others pose as hospital representatives and take patients and their families to GK1. The police said these men searched other government and private institutions for vulnerable families who required fast, affordable procedures.
